This week of Rotoscoping class

  • I learned that rotoscoping is the absolute most tedious thing of all time, but still doable.
  •  I'd like to learn how to trick someone into doing my work for me (Tom Sawyer) and how to rotoscope faster without copying and pasting.
  • Nothing frustrated me, except for Derek... he's a bloody genius. Oh and rotoscoping is tedious, I already said that though.
  • Being done with my filming made me happy, and helping others with theirs.
http://m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=%2F#/watch?v=_4IWxKfkJ9o  this is a link to one of the most comically, corny videos of rotoscoping I've ever seen. And I've seen few. Very few.

response to zombie love article

What I Learned

1. White Zombie was one of the first, if not exactly the first, zombie movies ever made.
2. Dawn of the Dead contains/is one big metaphor of consumerism and how it turns people  into 'zombies'.
3. Technology is another thing that can and does turn people into metaphorical zombie's.

My Opinions

1. Personally, I love zombies. I don't know why. I've dressed like a zombie for Halloween at least twice. They are just cool, especially when you're killing them in video games.
2. I've never thought about the ideas that technology can turn people into zombies but I agree, that someone who's just starting at their phone, completely oblivious to the outside world, is the same as a zombie.

Why do people like to act like zombies? Being a dumb sack of dead flesh isn't very fun.

response to animated female characters article

What I Learned

1. Animating female characters is rather difficult.
2. Animating a female character's face when she is angry can end up making the girl look ugly.
3. You can't please everyone when it comes to animating, if the female character looks too pretty then some will find it sexist, but too ugly and some won't like the character.

My Opinions

1. This is a movie made for kids, we really shouldn't care this much.
2. That being said, I do understand why some think that making the female characters pretty is sexist, but this is what Disney has always done. 'Make the girl beautiful.' It's best to stick with what's easier, and not worry too much about it.

However, shouldn't they have tried a bit harder to make the characters look just a little bit less like the girl from Tangled?

point of view article response

What I learned

1. Point of view has the ability to alter the viewer's thoughts and opinions of a character.
2. A villain or criminal can be pictured as a hero or a misunderstood person who had to make bad choices by showing us his life through his eyes.
3. White was portrayed to be a desperate man who was suffering from cancer, was low on money, and he had a kid with cerebral palsy. The audience immediately pitied him and pardoned all of his crimes.

My opinions
1. I wish I had watched this show
2. I just hearing about this guy's life already pity him proving that the point of view aspect works. I think it is the same technique used in Megamind.

Do some people see past the point of view technique, like automatically disliking White?
What is with this show? It is constantly talked about by everyone.

animated films article response

What I learned

1. Animated movies are still pretty much targeted to kids mainly, even though every now and then an adult wants to go see the new Toy Story movie.
2. Animated films are treated as one single genre of movie, though many of them are different.
3. Rango, arguably, is considered to be a more mature or adult movie.

My opinions

1. I agree that animated movies are more targeted toward children, kids like cartoons and animated movies are big cartoons.
2. I know the article is about animated movies but not all animated things are for kids. They could easily make a movie out of Family Guy and they have made The Simpsons Movie which was targeted to adults considering how kids aren't supposed to see that show, though they do anyway.

How long will it be until more animated movies arrive that are targeted mainly to more mature audiences?

Class this week

  • I learned how to make different tweens and masks.
  • I'd like to learn to use the bone tool better, it hates me.
  • I was frustrated that I forgot to hand in my storyboard again....
  • Finishing the flash exercise packet made me happy
This link is an older video tutorial for adobe flash and shows how to add
laser effects to a weapon from the Halo video game series. It's pretty cool.
