Disney and Henson article response

What I Learned

1. I actually did not know who Jim Henson was, and now I know that he is the reason we have The Muppets and Sesame Street.
2. Henson and Walt are pretty similar and brought joy to many people both young and old.
3. Henson's childhood is said to have been impoverished.

My Opinions

1. These two men are/were responsible for great things, whether or not you think kermit and mickey are for little kids.
2. I'm confused as to what it means when it says: " Walt's fairy tales had dark elements; Jim’s were even darker."

What does that sentence mean? Is it talking about the controversial things in disney movies? And are there disturbing things in Jim's works?
ps here is a link to a video of what I mean when I say controversial things in disney movies.
Warning it contains adult stuff.

This week of class

  • I learned that the merge mode in flash can be the worst thing ever, of all time.
  • I want to learn how to draw better....
  • I am frustrated with my storyboard, it's late, it sucks, and I have no good ideas for it.
  • I was happy just working on the exercises for flash. I'd say I was glad we had fire drills, but I think they gave me hearing damage.

This week's link is pretty cool. It is a video of a tutorial of sorts for adobe flash that a guy made to create a mario animation. So, yeah. Check it out   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r5O6LzCGWk

response to storyboarding tips article

Things I learned
1. Drawing a grid is a good way to show your character's position.
2. Storyboarding is helpful in determining the actions of a scene and checking to see how it would play out.
3. Good use of the background and foreground can create a sense of depth, which is important to make your storyboards appear better.

My opinions
1. These tips are pretty helpful and if one was smart they should/would use them.
2. I appreciate this article for giving us these helpful ideas and 1 terrible pun (paragraph 3,line 2)

How long should an average storyboard be?

what i learned this week

  • I learned to label my tab dividers in my binder...
  • I still want to learn how to do 3d animation and how to draw better. Oh, and how to fly.
  • I was frustrated that Orian ditched us, and that my 5 new scenes are probably going to be handed in late. Plus I hurried my drawings and did them before my other work thinking that I'd have to hand those in sooner.
  • I was happy with my quizzes, I did well on them.

This is a link to an animated video made by a company called rooster teeth. The series is called Red vs Blue and is made from my favorite game series, Halo. There is strong violence and adult language. If you've played a GTA game than you are mature enough for this.

response to chipoltle scarecrow article

  • I just learned about this scarecrow video now.
  • I learned about the use of narratives, such as the scarecrow or the old spice commercials.
  • Chipoltle's videos have created so much controversy and their back to the start video has been viewed about seven and a half million times!

  1. I really liked that scarecrow video, the part with the cows made me sad.
  2. I think that what chilpotle is doing with this videos is cool.

What immediate trouble can chipoltle run into with these videos? (Other than using a song from Willy Wonka)

response to manipulating emotions with music article

  • I just learned about infrasound, i've never heard of this before.
  • I learned that infrasound is unhearable, if that is a word, and can invoke emotions in people such as fear.
  • Apparently Paranormal Activity used infrasound and it made the audience scared even before any action started.

  1. I'm not much of a fan of horror movies and I think that using some sound technique to scare your audience is a a little cheap...
  2. I don't think music usually effects me too much with movies unless the music is very loud and disturbing.

What was the first horror movie to start using infrasound?

Response to the too many animated films article

    1. I learned that Despicable Me 2made 750 million dollars in ticket sales. That is crazy.
    2. I learned that a new movie is coming out about Legos, so I'm going to see that.
    3. Apparently Iron Giant was a box office clunker....

1.I loved Iron Giant, so I'm a little confused to hear that it wasn't a good movie.
    2. I knew from the start that Turbo wasn't going to be very good, I'm not suprised to hear it wasn't profitable.

Will animated movie production be slowed down, or will they keep pulling new ones out?

I learned a variety of shortcuts to use on adobe illustrator cmd g groups objects and shift+cmd g un groups.
I'd like to learn how to make 3D objects.
I was frustrated by the thaumatrope. It came out a llittle crooked and every time I tried to erase a drawing it would not disappear completely.
I was happy doing the Illustrator exercises because they were easy and fun.
This is a video of a person drawing one of my favorite youtubers. I thought it was cool.
